Lodestar is a daily reflection app developed and operated by Psyton Industries, LLC ("Psyton," "we," "us," or "our"). It is designed to help you start your morning with clarity and close your evening with intention. We believe your inner life is private by default. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have — in plain language.
Your reflections are private — full stop. Lodestar uses Apple's Foundation Models to generate personalized reflections — either on your device or, where Apple determines it is necessary, through Apple's Private Cloud Compute, which is end-to-end encrypted so that neither Apple nor Psyton can access your data. Your reflections are synced across your devices through iCloud. Psyton never sees, stores, or processes your reflections.
Information We Collect
Information you provide
When you set up Lodestar, we store information on your device to personalize your experience:
- Selected philosophical pillars and reflection preferences
- Onboarding responses such as values and personal goals
Important: Journal entries, personal reflections, and evening check-in responses are stored on your device and synced across your devices via iCloud. They are never transmitted to Psyton or any third party other than Apple.
Information collected automatically
We may collect limited, anonymized usage analytics to improve the app experience. If enabled, this may include:
- App usage patterns (e.g., frequency of reflection views, feature usage)
- Device type and operating system version
- Crash logs and performance diagnostics
- Subscription status
We do not store or use your IP address for analytics purposes, and we do not collect any content you write or read within the app.
How We Use Your Information
The limited data we collect is used solely to:
- Deliver and improve the Lodestar app experience
- Understand which features resonate with users so we can build better ones
- Monitor app stability and fix bugs
- Process subscription payments through Apple's App Store
We never use your data to build advertising profiles, and we never sell your data to anyone.
AI Processing & Privacy
Lodestar's personalized reflections are generated using Apple's Foundation Models on supported devices. This means:
- AI processing is handled by Apple — either on your device or, where Apple determines it is necessary, through Apple's Private Cloud Compute (PCC). PCC is end-to-end encrypted, runs on dedicated Apple silicon servers, and is designed so that neither Apple nor any third party can access your data during or after processing. See Apple's PCC documentation for details.
- Psyton never receives, processes, or stores your reflection content. No data is sent to Psyton's servers or any third-party AI service.
- Your preferences, values, and goals are stored on your device and synced across your devices via Apple's encrypted iCloud — Psyton never has access to this data
- No personal reflection content is ever used to train AI models by Psyton. Apple's use of data is governed by Apple's privacy policy.
Devices without Apple Intelligence support
For users on devices that do not support Apple's Foundation Models (such as iPhone 15 and earlier non-Pro models, or iPads without M-series chips), Lodestar delivers reflections from a curated library of professionally written content.
No third-party AI, ever: Lodestar does not transmit your personal data to third-party AI services — not OpenAI, not Google, not any external provider. AI processing is handled exclusively by Apple's infrastructure, whether on-device or via Private Cloud Compute. Devices without Foundation Models support receive curated reflections that are stored locally and synced via iCloud, just like AI-generated reflections on supported devices.
Analytics & Cookies
Lodestar does not currently collect analytics data. If we enable analytics in the future, we will use lightweight, privacy-respecting tools that:
- Do not track you across other apps or websites
- Do not create advertising or behavioral profiles
- Cannot be used to personally identify you
- Are aggregated and anonymized before analysis
Lodestar does not use Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework because we do not track users across other apps or websites.
If you visit our website (lodestar.psyton.com), we may use essential cookies for basic site functionality. We do not use third-party advertising or tracking cookies on our website.
Data Sharing & Third Parties
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We may share limited data only with the following categories of service providers, and only as necessary:
- Apple (iCloud): Your reflections, preferences, and goals are synced across your devices using iCloud. This data is governed by Apple's privacy policy and is not accessible to Psyton.
- Apple (App Store): Payment processing for subscriptions is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. Lodestar does not receive or store your payment details.
- RevenueCat: Subscription management is handled by RevenueCat, Inc. RevenueCat receives anonymized device identifiers, transaction records, and subscription status to manage your subscription. RevenueCat does not receive your reflection content, goals, or personal preferences. See RevenueCat's privacy policy.
- Analytics provider: If we enable analytics in the future, anonymized, aggregated usage data may be processed by a third-party analytics provider. We will update this policy to name the provider before enabling analytics collection.
We may also disclose information if required by law, such as in response to a valid subpoena or court order.
Data Retention
Because your data is stored on your devices and in your private iCloud account, you are in control:
- Your data (reflections, journal entries, preferences): Stored on your device and synced via iCloud. Deleting the app removes local data; iCloud data persists until you remove it manually via Settings > Apple ID > iCloud > Manage Storage. We have no access to this data.
- Analytics data: If analytics are enabled, anonymized data is retained for up to 24 months, then deleted.
- Subscription records: Managed by Apple and RevenueCat per their respective data retention policies.
Your Rights & Choices
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:
- Access & portability: Request a copy of any data we hold about you. Because Psyton does not store your reflection content or personal preferences on our servers, the data we hold is limited to anonymized analytics (if enabled) and any information you have sent us directly (e.g., support emails).
- Deletion: Request deletion of any data Psyton holds. On-device and iCloud data is under your control and can be deleted at any time (see Section 6).
- Opt out of analytics: If analytics collection is enabled, you will be able to disable it in the app's Settings.
- Withdraw consent: Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time.
To exercise these rights, contact us at the address listed in Section 11. We will respond within 30 days (or sooner where required by law).
California residents (CCPA)
California residents have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, including the right to know what personal information is collected and to request its deletion. Lodestar does not sell personal information as defined under the CCPA.
European residents (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation, including rights to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, and data portability. Our legal basis for processing is legitimate interest (app improvement) and, where applicable, your consent.
Children's Privacy
Lodestar is designed for users aged 12 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.
For users between 13 and 17, we encourage parental awareness of app usage. Lodestar's content is designed to be appropriate for adolescents and adults.
Data Security
We take reasonable and appropriate measures to protect the limited data we do collect, including:
- Minimal data collection by design — we cannot lose what we do not hold
- Reliance on Apple's encrypted iCloud infrastructure and end-to-end encrypted Private Cloud Compute for all user data
- Periodic review of our third-party service providers' security practices
While no system is perfectly secure, our privacy-by-design architecture — where your personal data stays on your devices and in your private iCloud account, never on our servers — significantly reduces risk.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal, operational, or regulatory reasons. When we make material changes, we will notify you through the app or via our website before the changes take effect.
We encourage you to review this policy periodically. The "Effective Date" at the top of this page indicates when the policy was last revised.
